Water is the source of life, though it can be the cause of frustration for anyone that is dealing with a plumbing issue. There are not many ways to destroy a home’s structure than a major plumbing problem.
To keep your pipes from freezing in the winter, maintain a constant temperature in your home above freezing, and be certain to adequately insulate those pipes that are out in the weather. Your plumbing can freeze if the air around them fall below freezing. It could take some time for the pipes to thaw out so that you can have running water. However, they could burst, which will cause an enormous mess and repair bill.
If you have a frozen pipe, turn on the tap to the faucet nearest the pipe so that the water has somewhere to exit as the pipe thaws. This gives the pressure somewhere to go, which could prevent a big mess in your home.
Do not pay your plumber until the job. You may have to pay a portion of the cost before the plumber works on the job, but do not give them the entire sum of money until you are sure they have done a good job. You want to make sure the plumber completed everything that they said they would before you pay in full.
Don’t use harsh chemicals such as toilet tablets that claim to be cleaners in your toilet. These products may well remove odors, but they can seriously damage the rubber pieces in the toilet, causing poor functionality or even complete breakdown of the fixture.
